Proper Hair Care 101
Everyone loves a good hair day. You know, like when you glance in the mirror and everything seems to fall just right. Fantastic hairdos are amazing, but what's the secret to really good hair? Experts tell us the health of your hair is the essential component.
Research has proven that split ends and frayed hair strands prevent great hair, and yes, we're all vulnerable to them. However, when left untreated, they make for dull, dry, tangled, and generally uncute hair. So what are the best methods to keep your hair looking lustrous and healthy?
For starters, you can’t actually restore damaged hair follicles, but you can temporarily mend the strand, giving your hair a great appearance. What's more, with consistent care and maintenance, and the proper hair products, you can keep your damaged hair looking and feeling as healthy as possible.
Avoid chemical laden hair products
Hair products like shampoos, conditioners, and hair enhancing serums are loaded with killer chemicals that leave hair stripped of its natural moisture and destroy elasticity. Of course, this means you end up with lots of fraying and breakage, or even worse, chronic hair loss.
Now take shampoo for example. Your typical bottle of shampoo contains over 25 different chemicals that are either highly inflammatory, or worse, carcinogenic (cancer causing). We're talking about silicones, acrylates, SLS, SLES, phthalates, phosphates, and sulfates. These are then routinely combined with synthetic colors and fragrances known to produce allergic reactions. Yep. Dandruff, eczema, baldness--sounds familiar??
But let's also consider the high levels of harsh detergents contained in the average shampoo versus the low levels of natural moisturizers. Companies know that by increasing the amount of cheap detergent in their shampoos they can easily minimize their expenses and drive profits higher. Unfortunately, commercial detergents are harsh and damaging. They strip hair from all of its natural oil and cause our sebaceous glands to go into overdrive just to compensate for the lack of moisture. This means that your scalp will produce far more oil than needed leading to really greasy hair. And that's where our bad hair day comes into play.
But we're not done yet. Because you see, after all that extra oil is produced and your hair suddenly looks embarrassingly greasy, I bet you're going to make a beeline for that shower once again, right? Well, frequent showers mean that more shampoo is being dispensed (more often), resulting in yet another trip to the store for yet another bottle of that lousy shampoo. And, of course...more of a profit for the companies selling those cheap hair care products. So could this be why they add all of that awful detergent? I know it sounds conspiratorial, but still, it makes you kinda wonder...
So which shampoo should you use?
Well, the good news is that there's a viable alternative and you don't have to compromise your health or the appearance of your hair any longer. Because when it comes to premium quality shampoo with all the natural goodies, we've got you and yours covered.
Honestly, we simply can't hold back when it comes to recommending our very own line up of primarily organic shampoo. Free of toxins and harmful chemicals, we take special care to formulate each and every bottle with the very best moisturizing oils available, such as certified organic argan oil, MCT rich coconut oil, and vegetable glycerin. In fact, our shampoo contains enough moisturizers that it can easily double up as a 2-in-1 shampoo plus conditioner. And of course, we don't skimp on the pure botanical compounds and essential vitamins that make for a really terrific hair product.
Cleansing your hair
For starters, many dermatologists and hair experts are now recommending less time in the shower. That means that you should really avoid showering every single day (unless you must), since this will only dry out your hair and skin and leave them susceptible to damage. And when you cleanse, always apply the shampoo directly to the roots, gently working it in.
Combing your hair properly
It's really important to always comb in the shower while hair is still wet and moisturized, and to do so with a wide tooth comb. Combing hair out while applying some kind of styling oil or leave-in conditioner will help the comb glide through while evenly distributing the conditioner, without breaking the strand. Besides, hair is always more elastic when wet.
Rinse with cooler water afterwards in order to seal down the cuticle. The result is that your hair will be less frizzy, shinier when dry, and easier to style. Also, bear in mind that towel drying can cause split ends if done roughly. So always gently pat your hair dry.
Protecting Your Hair While You Dry
Now whether or not you have damaged hair, we believe that a good leave-in conditioner is a must for everyone. Unfortunately, it is rarely easy to find one that works as well as advertised. Some leave-ins will evaporate too quickly, leaving your flyaways untamed, while others will cause your hair to stick together and lay down flat on your head. Then there are those that are so greasy feeling that they make you want to shower all over again. That's why we believe our Moroccan Argan Oil & Tea Tree Hair Repair & Scalp Treatment is the perfect leave-in conditioner and styling aid. Not to mention the fact that its loaded with all sorts of amazing ingredients. Just work the product into your hair, especially the areas where you feel you have the most damage and go about your business as usual. It’s quite amazing stuff for strengthening, softening, detangling, adding a little extra body, taming flyaways, and enhancing shine.... for real!!
